Energy Vault Research & Development Center (Arbedo-Castione, Switzerland) is the foundational location for Energy Vault design innovation, advanced materials science development, and proprietary machine-vision software testing. Testing and demonstration of the now decommissioned EV1 Tower validated the functionality and economics of our technology for our customers and investors. The recently converted site location will continue to focus research, development, innovation and advancement of our gravity energy storage technologies as we begin commercial deployments of this technology this year.
In July of 2020, Energy Vault completed mechanical construction of the first of its kind, grid-scale Commercial Demonstration Unit of the EV1 Tower design. The CDU was connected to the Swiss national utility grid and utilized for two years of testing and software commissioning.
The Energy Vault Commercial Demonstration Unit provided the foundational location for due diligence testing of Energy Vault’s EV1 system and validation of our technology. It is at this very location where extensive due diligence on Energy Vault’s technology has been conducted by some of the largest investors, energy companies, utilities and industrial companies in the world.
Testing and demonstration of EV1 proved both the functionality and economics of our technology, resulting in the global commercial partnerships we have today and our planned EVx deployments beginning this year.
