St. Gall Battery Energy Storage System

Energy Vault’s B-VAULT™ AC battery energy storage system (BESS) shifts regional wind and solar generation, stabilizing the Texas grid while increasing customer revenue.

Project Overview

Located near Fort Stockton in Pecos County, Texas, the St. Gall Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is a 100 MW-ac / 200 MWh-ac project utilizing 76 of Energy Vault’s fully integrated B-VAULT™ AC battery containers (First generation, 2.76 MWh-ac per container)

The project operates within the Energy Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) energy and ancillary services markets, generating merchant revenue by providing energy shifting and reliability services to the Texas grid.

At the St. Gall site, Energy Vault delivered comprehensive Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) wrap services. Leveraging its extensive commissioning and start-up (CSU) expertise and the B-VAULT's user-friendly system architecture, Energy Vault successfully commissioned the 200 MWh-ac St. Gall project in a record time of just 14 days.

During operation, Energy Vault’s proprietary EMS software, VaultOS, monitors and controls all aspects of the BESS, from daily operations to advanced market bidding and system maintenance. While undergoing testing, the St. Gall system surpassed ERCOT's 250ms maximum requirement for Fast Frequency Response (FFR).
