Long-Duration Power for NSW
The Stoney Creek Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is a 1.0 gigawatt-hour (GWh), 8-hour duration facility in Narrabri, New South Wales — one of Australia's largest long-duration battery projects.
Developed by Energy Vault in partnership with Enervest and featuring a 125 megavolt-ampere (MVA) connection, the project was awarded a 14-year Long-Term Energy Service Agreement (LTESA) by the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) Services. It will provide critical grid stability, balancing renewable energy generation and enhancing system resilience in line with New South Wales' decarbonization goals.
Currently in the development phase, the Stoney Creek BESS is expected to begin construction in 2025, creating up to 150 jobs at peak construction and four full-time operational roles once completed. This project is a key part of Energy Vault's 'Own & Operate' growth strategy, reinforcing its commitment to delivering sustainable, long-duration energy storage solutions that support Australia's energy transition.

Community Boosting
Stoney Creek will create 150 jobs at peak construction and four full-time operational roles while actively engaging Traditional Owners, community groups, and local councils to ensure a collaborative, sustainable development that strengthens the local economy and enhances grid reliability.

In partnership with Enervest, the 1.0 GWh Stoney Creek BESS leverages the B-VAULT architecture and is one of Australia's largest 8-hour battery systems, selected under AEMO Services' NSW Long Duration Storage tender. Its inclusion as an LTESA project highlights its strategic role in enhancing grid reliability and accelerating Australia's energy transition.
