Advancing Australia's Energy Transition
Collocated with ACEN Australia's 720 MW New England Solar project, Energy Vault will deliver two battery energy storage system (BESS) deployments totaling 400 MWh.
The projects are split into a two-phase development delivering an initial 50 MW/100 MWh BESS and subsequently a 150 MW/300 MWh BESS.
Construction on both BESS deployments began in Q1 2025, with commercial operations targeted for 2025 and 2026. The BESS systems will be charged and discharged daily to help meet peak electricity demand in New South Wales by dispatching stored renewable energy from the co-located solar project. This is expected to reduce the region's reliance on coal-fired power generation.
Energy Vault's BESS deployments will utilize its B-VAULT™ integrated battery storage solutions and VaultOS™ energy management system to store energy and orchestrate the entire site's operations, respectively. The BESS systems will be coupled with Siemens S120 inverters to enable advanced grid support functionalities. This collaboration between ACEN Australia and Energy Vault represents a significant investment in grid-scale energy storage to integrate renewable energy in the Australian market.

Tailor Made Solution
Energy Vault's B-VAULT™ was optimized specifically for the New England BESS project. The unique form factor incorporates inverters into the BESS module satisfying ACEN's inverter requirements while simultaneously reducing onsite construction scope and costs.

Market Leading Project
Demonstrating Energy Vault's agility in adapting to new markets and customer needs, the New England BESS marks the first large-scale battery energy storage deployment in Australia for both Energy Vault and the New England region of New South Wales (NSW).

Collocated Operations
The New England BESS project is collocated with the 720MW New England Solar project which is also developed by ACEN Australia. The combined system will drive the NSW Government's Emerging Energy Program.

Software-Enabled Startup
The VaultOS™ Energy Management System will control, manage and optimize the BESS operations, allowing for superior energy management capabilities.
