A BESS stores electricity when supply exceeds demand (or when prices are low) and releases electricity when demand increases or supply decreases. This helps balance the grid and reduce reliance on fossil-fuel peaker plants.

As intermittent energy sources increase, the grid requires fast-responding flexible resources to fill power gaps and regulate the grid. The SOSA Energy Center helps stabilize the grid, reduce congestion, and ensure reliable power delivery to homes and businesses across Texas.

Not only does the SOSA Energy Center bring a stronger local grid reliability and resilience to Madison County, it also offers economic development, job creation and consistent local revenue streams. SOSA will generate ongoing tax revenue and land lease payments which can support schools, infrastructure and public services. Energy Vault expects the project to generate over 60 jobs during the 18 months of construction and contribute in excess of $9M in tax revenue to North Zulch ISD and Madison County.

Yes. The SOSA Energy Center is designed to meet or exceed all applicable fire, electrical, and safety standards. The system includes multiple layers of safety, including:

• 24/7 remote monitoring
• Emergency response coordination with local authorities

The SOSA project uses Energy Vault's proprietary technology, the B-Vault. B-Vault uses containerized, outdoor, physically separated units designed to prevent fire propagation. Along with the B-Vault tech, Energy Vault uses its very own Energy management system (EMS) to allow for early detection, rapid isolation, and immediate response.
