The Senior Geotechnical Engineer will be subject matter expert during site evaluation, foundation design, construction, and operation of our energy storage towers and sites. Using your expertise with large design and construction projects and employing geotechnical analysis software, you will collaborate with our other engineers, project managers, and procurement to deliver on our executed contracts with clients.
you will do
Perform a screening-level assessment of likely geotechnical conditions at each site, rating and ranking individual sites in geotechnical terms for the potential to construct an EV structure.
Develop, implement, and manage a site geotechnical investigation and material testing program to adequately characterize the foundation. Develop a geotechnical data report (GDR) that summarizes foundation engineering characteristics.
From the GDR, develop a geotechnical design report (GDR) that includes all design recommendations and identifies suitable foundation types for an EV tower.
Assess the presence of and impacts of groundwater on the site development. If necessary, design a dewatering system that enables construction below the water table or recommend appropriate construction techniques below groundwater.
Develop and document potential foundation failure modes and effects, including excessive and differential settlement, soil/rock shear failure under concentrated loads and minimum bearing capacity.
Assess overall site stability, including recommendations on temporary and permanent slope layback and performing predicted settlement and slope stability analysis.
Provide cost estimation on various ground improvement techniques such as grout injection, soil nails, retaining walls and other geotechnical stabilization measures.
Collaborate directly with an EV senior civil engineer to characterize the foundation conditions from a design perspective and provide input to structural engineers on the geotechnical conditions that effect foundation size and type.

Candidate will possess
BS degree from an ABET-accredited institution and preferred MS in geotechnical engineering or related field.
10+ years of relevant experience, typically post-graduation.
Large power station or deep high-rise building foundations a plus.
Professional registration as a specialty Geotechnical Engineer (GE) in the U.S.
Extensive large structure geotechnical engineering site characterization, design, and construction experience. Large power station or high-rise construction experience is a plus.
Working knowledge and experience with computer aided drafting and design (CADD) and preferably competency in Autodesk Civil 3D and comparable software.
Strong background in foundation design in both bedrock and soil sites. Typical design experience should include cast-in-hole drilled piles, driven pile design, dynamic testing and analysis and design of extensively reinforced steel and concrete mat foundations.
Knowledge and experience with analytical and design geotechnical software such as Rockworks Slope-W, STABL and other relevant analytical tools.
Extensive experience working collaboratively with other engineering disciplines.
Significant field engineering support during construction.
